Passionate divers are always looking for a new spot to explore underwater.

With stunning coasts and reefs, a handful of Greek islands (Lesvos, Lemnos, Agios Efstratios, Rodos & Kalymnos, and Crete), and the Cypriot island areas of Larnaca & Famagusta and Limassol joined forces to literally and figuratively put themselves on the map.

And so the transnational project "Dive in our islands" was born. At first, all they needed was a visual identity and some nifty maps.

Drawing a fine line from the first batch of maps we designed back in 2015, we revived this ever-challenging project, this time with our experience leading the way to a fresh yet consistent revamp of the diving maps of Lesvos, Rodos, Cyprus, and Crete this time round.

Back in 2015 we received ready-made “template” drawings responding to each covered area, for which we merely ought to a design coherent visual identity (with great success, but still…). So, when asked to revisit the whole project in 2023, we decided to dig deep along with the divers that charted the additional locations; hence, we requested more sufficient material like underwater photos & videos, and GPS tracking data.

This time, we went the extra mile and review all the material in detail under the guidance of the specialists. That way we were able to accurately visualize every diving route and illustrate the points of interest in the seabed of every island.

For the logo, we kept its original form with the illustrated figures of a diver and a dolphin just under the water, with a backdrop of the sun's reflection.

After an eight years gap, things had change and the deliverables went up, with a total of 21 maps for five insular areas in Greece and Cyprus, whereas in 2015 were designed 13 maps for five areas respectively.

As all routes vary in difficulty, accessibility and geomorphology, the design demanded to show the formations such us caves, reefs, discovered shipwrecks etc.

For a better display of each terrain, on the front side one sees the map with all technical details of the diving route, while on the back side a clear route description is provided with more specific information about the landscape, the biodiversity and other useful facts.

The illustration style transitioned from 2015's bold, technical outlines that emphasized every detail to 2023's lighter outlines that fade gradually, allowing forms to emerge through light and shadow. This shift creates a more atmospheric and cool aesthetic, focusing on specific highlights to help with the diver's orientation during the dive.
